Running a conference quiz

This guide walks you through everything you need to know to run a QuizWitz quiz at a conference booth or event — from opening the quiz link to the final leaderboard.

Requirements

Before you start, make sure you have:

  • A stable internet connection
  • The quiz URL (provided to you in advance)
  • A laptop connected to the screen that players will watch
  • Google Chrome — other browsers like Safari or Edge may not work correctly

Opening the quiz for the first time

  1. Open the quiz URL in Google Chrome.
If it doesn't open in Chrome automatically, right-click the link and choose Open with → Google Chrome.

  2. A black loading screen appears showing a percentage. This only takes a few seconds.

  3. Once loaded, the quiz screen appears. If prompted to log in, click Login — a second tab will open.

    • Click Login on the sign-in page and enter the credentials provided to you.
    • After signing in, the tab closes automatically and the quiz finishes loading.
  4. When loading is complete, the quiz welcome screen appears.

  5. Move your cursor over the screen to reveal the control bar at the bottom.
Click the square icon on the right to enter fullscreen mode.
The quiz is now ready to play on the main display.

tip

To exit fullscreen at any time — for example, to switch to another window — press Esc.

Restarting the quiz for another group

To play again after a completed game, you have a few options:

  • Reload the page — click the reload icon in Chrome's toolbar (you may need to press Esc first to exit fullscreen).
  • Press S — after the quiz ends, pressing S on the keyboard brings you back to the start screen.

If a pop-up appears asking whether you want to start a new game, click Yes, start new game.

Once the quiz reloads, it will remember your login and go straight to the welcome screen. Enter fullscreen again using the control bar.

Players joining the quiz

Players join using their own smartphones in one of two ways:

  • Navigate to www.quizwitz.tv in their browser
  • Scan the QR code shown on the main screen

On the join screen, players:

  1. Enter the 8-digit code shown on the main display.
  2. Fill in their name and email address.
  3. Check the privacy checkbox.
  4. Tap READY.

Once joined, players see a waiting message on their phone. The main screen shows how many players are connected.

note

Players can join at any time as long as the maximum number of players hasn't been reached.

Starting the game

Once the players you want are connected, press S on the keyboard.
A 5-second countdown begins, and then the quiz starts automatically.

How the quiz runs

  • Each question appears on the main screen with the question text, four answer options, and an image.
  • Players see the same question on their phone and tap one of the four options.
  • Players have 30 seconds to answer. The timer is shown as a white bar at the bottom of the screen.
  • As soon as all players have answered (or time runs out), the correct answer is revealed on screen as a pie chart showing how answers were distributed.
  • Players see on their phone whether they answered correctly and how many points they earned. Faster correct answers earn more points.
  • After all questions, each player's score is revealed one by one, from lowest to highest, ending with the winner.
  • A final leaderboard is shown. Players can also see their score and ranking on their phone.

Useful controls

The control bar appears at the bottom of the screen when you move your cursor over it. It contains:

What to do if something goes wrong

  • A player dropped out? They can rejoin using the same code, as long as the maximum number of players hasn't been reached yet.
  • Screen went black or froze? Try pressing F5 to reload, or click the reload icon in Chrome.
